First week has flown in. We spent a couple of days in Cusco getting over the jet lag and the end if term. We headed out to the school on Tues, met Celeste, who runs the school, and had a tour round the school which is basically a house with small rooms made into classrooms. We are staying in the volunteer flat where Celeste lives with her Peruvian partner Calline. Hes an artist who plays lots of loud music. He cooked for us and we even had some salsa dancing in the living room :) We had a day at the school this week. Thurs turned out to be a transport strike and Friday was teachers day (we should definately have one of those) Our day in the school was interesting though I was in two autism classes and i cleared out the garage lol. The kids are lovely and sumilar abilities to home. Teaching is very different although they are implementing a few familiar strategies. The language barrier is a bit of a problem, more so with the staff than the kids really. We also met Nicole, an American volunteer who is here for over a month. She is lovely and we have created a wee group.
So on our long weekend we decided to head to Puno and Lake Titikaka. We spent Thurs in Cusco organising and took a 7hour bus on Friday. Unfortunately Nicole and I ate something bad in Cusco and ended up being ill :( Not fun throwing up on a bus :-/ Luckily I was better in time to take the tour of Lake Titikaka. Last time we did the two day trip and stayed overnight on Amantani island but this time we only have time for a day trip to the floating islands and Taquile island. Back to Cusco tomorrow on the bus and school on Monday.
