I spoke too soon about Koh Samui - it brought us near death experience no 4.
It was our last night; the girls had just treated me to a Mexican which was lovely, my favourite type of food, we had played a game of crazy golf (yes it's all happening on Koh Samui!) and we were walking back to our hostel for an earlyish night.
I was walking in the front, Sarah behind and Emma behind her. Just as we went passed Burger King there was an almighty crash above our heads and the sound of live wires. I bent down immediately and put my hands over my head. I didn't know what was happening, but I thought a wire (in Thailand there are loads of wires attached very precariously to poles running down the street.) had somehow broken and I imagined it swinging and fizzing above my head. I heard someone (it was Emma) shout ''Lyndsey, RUN'', but I didn't know which way to run. I looked up and some girls were signalling for me to run towards them so I did, and as I did I heard a smash behind me.
When I turned round I realised just how lucky we had all been, an Aussie girl even suggested I go buy a lottery ticket!
A truck had been driving down the road and the top of it had collided with the Burger King sign, which had caused it to be torn off the pole it was attached to. Wires had been threaded through the sign, which kept it suspended, and stopped it from falling on our heads, but it broke some of the eletrical wires - Sarah had to dodge one of these as she ran. The neon light from inside the sign had smashed and shattered on the floor, which I later discovered had gone all over the back of my legs and feet (no cuts though, so don't panic - a shower sorted it out!) I took a picture of the 'crime scene', which I'll put on the site soon.
Emma and Sarah had run in the opposite direction to me, so once we had shouted to each other that we were ok we regrouped and walked back, very shaky to our hostel and each had a beer. Very traumatic for our last night together, but it could have been a lot worse.
The next morning I went with the girls to the airport to say sad farewells. Their plane was delayed and I had to get a move onto get to Immigration to extend my visa and then catch a boat to Surat Thani, so I couldn't wave them off.
I am truely a wimp though...I cried when I got in the taxi to Nathon...I'm all alone now and s***ting it!
