Lynda and Fred Travels
Breakfast with Helen who was very interested in discussing Crossthwaite family history....am finding out that Fred is identical to his dad, Fred sr...in humour and looks....after all he was the eldest of 6! And his sister and brother are humorous too in a lesser degree! All very much alike even though they don't keep in touch! We are going to visit a town called Crossthwaite where his family originated so will explore more there...got terribly lost again on our way back to hotel! Those stupid one way roads! Jack and pat picked us up our hotel and we went to Blackpool! Fred had always told me that he went to dances there and to the beach as a family...in fact their parents packed them all up and spent a weeks holiday there in the summer! I had imagined it as a beach suburb where they sat on the beach and went swimming! What he didn't tell me was that it is a city totally devoted to an amusement park! All the rides you can possibly imagine, a fake Eiffel Tower, madam tussaus, everything you can think of...they have a huge cement walkway along ocean....people paddle but don't swim! It is a games centre....never seen a town like it! In his youth all families packed up,their kids and went on train for holidays in Blackpool for a week...in his teens the guys went to dances and clubs there...in his adulthood he took his kids there...it used to attract the top music groups who, played for live audiences in the walkway! Nowadays much quieter as people travel much further abroad for holidays! But me, I loved it...could be a kid again and stay a week or so! Then we had a nice lunch in a bowls club which jack and pat frequent...then back to hotel for nap and out for dinner! A short walk down the river and back to our hotel for a game of crib....very nice day!
