Lynda and Fred Travels
Day started off sunny and cool. As we drove through mountains it got cooler. Great views of clouds mid stage in mountains as well as on top of mountains. Again roads went up, down, and hair pin turns and one way bridges. Really needed to keep your wits about you. I loved all the big pines in the mountain foothills. It is amazing that plants live on these Rocky Mountains! We stopped just short of murchison to walk over New Zealand's longest swinging bridge. Once over you could do a bush walk which took you through the epicentre of the 1929 earthquake....this whole country is about gold mining and earthquakes! We saw where the quake raised the earths floor 4 1/2 metres. We saw where the floods of 2010 came almost to the bridge...about 10 metres higher than normal! We had a hoot riding back on the zip line across the river....very comfortably seated I might add! We had coffee in a place in Murchison...which is very tiny....where they have huge timber tables...very swish! Lunch on the road then landed in Nelson mid afternoon. We are across the road from a beach west of town so I had a great time walking on the beach and seeing all the surf kites! Can't wait for morning walk on beach!
