Lynda and Fred Travels
Well we were off by 8am....a record. Last night there was a huge storm..thunder..lightening and today is very bleak...so glad our boat trip was yesterday! We reached Bryce Canyon about 11am and drove to the very top...17 miles up and once there you were 9,000 feet above sea level! ...it was just spectacular....so many different shapes and colours...mostly red....Fred found it very hard to breathe....I did to some extent! On the way back down there were numerous spots to get out and look....the view was so different from each spot...and even more wondrous! We were lucky with the weather....got to see all lookouts before it decided to let the heavens break out. We think Bryce is even more beautiful than the Grand Canyon! But not so much to do here...much more accessible by car. If you want to camp overnight they give you a bear proof container to put all your food into as there are lots of black bears in the park! No thanks to any camping offer here for us Bryce Canyon is in Utah....much nicer scenery....green grass...plants...animals that look healthy! Much more like home! We had lunch just outside the park and then drove to Panguitch...this is a cowboy town! Home of Butch Cassidy....every store and restaurant is prefixed with the word cowboy. I went into one store and all they sell are guns, heads of moose, and hundreds of moose antlers! We rested in a very average motel and went out to dinner in a cafe close by....straight from the cowboy movies...swear we were in the 50's! But good food and cheap! All about the experience!
