Started the day early and had difficulty keeping quiet while everyone else slept! Went upstairs and had breakfast- it was a choice of pancakes, toast, cereal and oranges. I ate lots! Plus it was free!
Packed up my stuff while the girls in my room were still sleeping, then checked out. I had heard sirens while I was getting going but wasn't sure why. I sat outside and waited for the tour bus to pick me up. There was a fire on the other side of the servo next to the hostel! Cops, fire, smoke etc!
Got on board the bus and a couple of new people had joined us which i was glad for!! I sat next to a dutch guy which made a nice change- at least he spoke and was funny!! He's even been to a few more places than me haha but he is 28 so maybe that will be me in a few years! Lol
First stop was Lake Louise - was pretty excited to see it on a clear sunny day! It was mostly frozen but had glimpses of the aqua colour that you see pictures of!! Apparently it is only like that for a couple of months a year, in one more month we would have seen it like that. It was still amazing! Saw some squirrels playing etc. Couldn't believe the mountain it sits next to is called Mt Victoria! So thanks mum and dad for naming me Louise Victoria Custance!! I thought it was cool. Took lots of photos. There was snow all around the edge of the lake beside the Lake Louise Chateau.
Continued on and made three more stops including Bow Lake and Mistaya Canyon which was a big gushing river that went through all these rocks. We went for a 'hike' around the area and went back to the river to have our picnic lunch! Was a great setting. Not too far from the lunch spot we saw a black bear on the side of the road- then after a big windy bit we stopped at a lookout and Marjon the Dutch girl spotted another black bear- only this time it had two tiny cubs!!! So cute!!!! Took lots of pics until Nicole the leader made us leave!!
Made our way to the Athabasca Glacier and Columbia Icefields which were still 100km away from Jasper. Some people went on the 'ice explorer' but a group of us went for a semi intense walk to view the glaciers. Was similar to the ones in NZ but pretty cool! I fell in knee deep of snow though! Haha also had a go at the 'planking' phenomenon which was interesting but stupid!!
The group ended up being delayed for an hour so I just chatted with some of the guys on my tour and sat out in the sun!!
Headed to Jasper and got some stuff for dinner, breakfast and lunch and went to the hostel. Didn't eat till 10:30 though! I was one of the few who decided to cook! We made basil pesto pasta, garlic bread and salad.. Was yummy!! Went out to the fire some of the people had made and sat around for a bit. Was prob the best night ive had on this tour! there's a pub crawl in banff tomorrow night so might do that! See how we go! ;)
