Lao Tse is often quoted for once stating that "Every journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." (Let's be honest this is the cliched quote to use for any life changing event or trip). While this can be understood on a deep philosophical level, there is the simple practical realities of the first step -- PACKING!
Our bags are getting organized and filled with items that we will need for our mission trip that begins on Saturday. Spread about our homes are malaria pills, extra toothbrushes, books for working with the students, bug spray, camping toilet paper (don't ask), medications, music players, journals, strategically selected snacks, culturally appropriate clothing, rain gear, pillows for the plane ride, cameras, books for personal use ... (insert a multitude of additional belongings). This simple demonstration of the priviledges/blessings that we have in our lives is rather shocking, especially when looking at our planned trip and the puropose of forming partnerships with the teachers and students that we due to meet in the coming days.
