Hi everyone,
Well Singapore was amazing.. first thing I noticed was how clean it was! No chewing gum allowed. Had booked into this dodgy hostel but decided i couldnt stay there after been given a bunk bed next to a wee homeless Singapore man and had to brush my teeth next to the cockroaches in the outdoor bathroom! Moved to hotel across the road and bartered with the guy at reception to give me a good deal! Finally, a clean room and good night sleep. Hotel in good location too next to Clarke Quay where theres loads of restaurants along the river.
Next day was sightseeing to the max - was a lovely day so went to the half constructed man made island paradise called Sentosa. The entire island has been constructed from reclaimed land given you can travel anywhere in Singapore from one side to the other within 45 minutes! Not like Melbourne - that wouldnt even get you from one end of the city to the other never mind the country! They are currently constructing a Universal Studios there and have some other interesting theme pakrs/attractions. I decided since it was a gorgeous day i would relax at one of the many beaches there. You'd think you were on a paradise island but it's all man made. Was weird seeing the big cargo ships out in the water given Singapore is one of the main ports in the world along with Hong Kong. Don't know how clean the water is to swim but i went for a paddle anyway, lovely and warm like a bath. Met up with Marian, Dave and Laura (neighbours from Cyprus) in the evening for dinner and then went to the famous Charlies bar to see the Singapore Mai tai's at their best.
Next day was more sightseeing all round the city. Went to China town, which was really cool and saw Little India etc too. Took in some shopping along the major shopping streets. Plenty of good shops! Really nice city to visit and felt quite safe wandering around. Next stop London and Glasgow!
