After Taupo we headed down to the famous Tongariro Crossing where i was planning to hike across the famous route. The route takes on average 8 hours to cross and we didnt have time to do it which was a bit of a bummber so i spoke to some locals and asked their advice, they told me a route that not many people do and they said it was better in their opinion because you get to see both mountains rather than one up close. It was supposed to take 6 hours which was better for us.
I took their advice and checked out the route and managed to talk the girls into doing it with me. There were loads of cool things to see onthe way and you finish up at aover 4000ft.
We got to the first waterfall stop where the girls decided they didnt want to carry on and would just wait in the car for me, so id ecided to hit the track hard and started to jog it seeming as i hadnt done much exercise in a while. I dont know what was going on but i was filled with energy and manged to keep a good pace for most of the way. I came to where the steep climb started and took a break to check the views, it was amazing, check the photos! The final bit was not really a track at all but a shingle faced steep climb where i had to use my hands and feet to scramble to the very top. The view was incredible :)
I jogged all the way back and manged to do the whole lot there and back in 4 hours, 2 hours quicker thsan stated so i was pretty happy and felt like id done a good bit of exercise.
After getting my breath back we hit the road again and headed down to Wellington. This drive again was so nice, i was at the point now when i looked forward to driving long distances because the views were so great.
