Day 3- Yesterday we set off on our journey to Hanoi city. Our first stop was supposed to be a 2 hour ride but due to bike issues we had to take it slow. We arrived in vung tau at about 630 pm and as we were arriving we got waved down by a lady that took us to her hotel. We stayed the night for 5$ each. Our hotel overlooked the ocean. Vung tau is a very peculiar place... Large hotels and tons of construction seemed to be going on everywhere but yet all the hotels seemed dead. Have only seen 2 white ppl in the entire town and they were Russian. No tourists anywhere, virtually no English either. Along the sea wall street peddlers were every where. Fresh seafood on every street corner but it all smelt terrible. We ended up going for itialian food. The owner is a big Italian guy from Italy and the good was absolutely delish. After dinner we went to some swanky bar filled with what seemed to be upper class Vietnamese ppl. We smoked some shisha in a cabana over looking the ocean and then called it an early night in hopes of getting scotts bike fixed and getting back on the road early in the morning but Finding a mechanic that we could communicate with and understood what was wrong was more of a Battle than we anticipated. Finally we found a guy who could just sort of make out what we were saying. After an entire day of the mechanic fighting with the bike and basically re building the engine hopefully it will be fixed. We have now changed our plans and are thinking it might be too much of a struggle to make the 10 day ride up to Hanoi... Think we may take our bikes back and book flights for 50$ to Hanoi. Very disappointing but I guess it is all part of the experience.
