We arrived in Santiago on a Sunday and once we realised there was no way of getting public transport to our hostel we jumped into a cab and received a free tour of the city as he had no idea where he was going and stopped the meter but eventually he got us to our hostel in a nice little street just a block away from the city centre.
As funds were running low at this point we had to dorm it for our last three nights in South America and we entered the dorm room with 9 beds in and dumped our stuff in and went for a wonder around the city but not much was open due to it being a sunday. We met alot of friends in this hostel including Daniel Jones from England, Andy from up north, a racist South African called Timmy Henry and a cool guy from Oz called Colin and we all got on really well at the bar especially when the night staff left the beer fridge open and fell asleep on duty lol!
Our first night in the dorm consisted off one huge fat lady snoring so loud you could hear her through the ear plugs, being bitten constantly by mosquitoes and Lukes bunk bed being covered in sand and broken in the middle. So we gave up trying to sleep around 4.30 and sat in the TV room with the night staff snoring in there also! So last two nights we got a private room and slept amazing! Well at least we tried ay?
On the Tuesday we walked through the city and it was a really hot day and went to a scenic look out over the city. In the evening the hostel provided us with free dinner which was ok and we sat in the bar all evening with the friends we had met.
On our last day we went to the local zoo and as we turned up there was around 30 school trips with 100's of kids so we attempted to get in but got mixed up with everyone and managed to get in for free as they thought we were with the schools which was a bonus! After this we took the hours walk up to the Virgin on top of a giant hill which was another scenic look out point over the city. We then headed back to the hostel and got ready to go to the airport and Andy who was staying at our hostel was on the same flight so we made the journey together.
