Lucy's Overseas Trip!
Hi all!!
After a very long 8 hours on a bus, we arrived in Palenque today!! Where we are staying is in the middle of the jungle! Some ppl on our tour commented...'Wow, this really is in the wilderness'...Mel and i just laughed!!! Here our cabins have running water, toilets (real ones!!) and beds.....definately not wilderness!!!! If they want wilderness, I'll have to show them the videos of the drop loos and remote cabins....and tell them the stories of us camping under the stars and not showering for days and days!!!!! This is luxury!!!!
Yesterday we went and explored the Cenotes....it was an experience...in many ways!! First of all the Cenotes were absolutely amazing, so beautiful! They literally are a hole in the ground that you climb down, then all of a sudden, at the bottom, you are in a cave with the most pretty crystal clear aqua blue water! It is so deep, but you could still see the bottom!!! We saw and swam in 3 in total!
The journey there was very funny.... First of all we had a crazy shuttle bus driver that took us halfway there - we are sure he actually nudged a bicycle rider on the road at one stage!! Scary stuff!! The second half of our journey there was a horse and carriage ride! To you this may seem quite nice, perhaps a little romantic...Think the absolute opposite of that and that is what we rode on!!!!! There were 4 of us in a carriage that was hauled along by this little horse on a very non-stable track!! Our horse was pretty crazy and was going pretty fast so the ride was VERY BUMPY!! At one stage we were going around a corner (very jerky!!) and the horse went too fast and our carriage actually came off the tracks!!!! So off we hopped and picked it back up and put in on the tracks!! You really had to hold on tight so you wouldn't fall out, but this became quite difficult because of the size...and quantity....of the flies!!! We must have looked like retards swatting them!! Very funny experience indeed!!
When we got back from the Cenotes, we wanted to go and explore the city of Merida a little, but this did not happen as it poured rain all afternoon and night!! We attempted however, but after walking a couple of blocks through the flooded streets and becoming completely saturated, we decided it was not fun anymore and went back to the hotel!! It was hilarious walking on the sidewalks of the very small streets and evertime a car...or even worse, a bus would drive past.....we would get sprayed with the water!!
Tomorrow we are off to explore the Palenque Ruins and to also see 2 waterfalls! We get to walk through the jungle with our tour guide as well which I am sure will be lots of fun....and very muddy as it has rained alot her lately!!!
Good luck to everyone competing in the Eisteddfod!! I wish i was there to give you all big hugs!!!!! Let me know how you all go!
Best be off....
Miss you all as always...
Lots of love hugs and kisses
