26th March: We had another lovely bus journey today for 11 hours this time to get us from Bagan to Kawlaw in one of those fun mini buses!
The next day we arrange to do a 2 day hike into the sourrounding hills with our guide, a shikh called Rambo!!??
The sourroundings we walked through were beautiful and although it was much cooler than India we really, really struggled wiht the walk - aching muscles, blisters and generally by the end of day one we were exhausted. Along the way we visited local villages of the Paulan tribe and had tea with the chief.
We spent the night at the view point a lovely spot at the edge of a huge sweaping valley. We ate fantastic food cooked by our hosts and slept in little huts. The shower was an oil drum filled with ice cold water in the middle of the woods - not quite 5 star luxury!!
Day 2 of the trek was much of the same thing, we did stop at the main train station of the for lunch which was completly manic with hawkers selling their wares to the pasengers. The last few hours back to the town were a bit of a struggle but we made it in the end. As soon as we got back we got a taxi over to Inle Lake - our last port of call before heading back to Yangon.
