My travels...
Cambodia- It's like a two worlded place. Outside of the city everyone is living in complete poverty. The city is lined with hostels and is rich.
Our journey started from Big Johns at 7.50am. We got i a mini-bus and made our way to Cambodia. Bangkok is so big, it took a while to get out for it. For the first time, we saw Thailands countryside, it was so away from the city.
The driver was odd and kept making weird noises. He was also an idiotic b******. On the way he ran over a dog...It was awful. Iain and I were sat at the front and saw it all. He had enough space to stop and no one was behind, instead he sped up and went right over it. He showed no emotion...
We eventually stopped at the border. It was crazy, as if we'd just pulled up to a third world country. Children were begging and following us as we walked. Some were locked behind some bars just asking for our money.
We sorted our visas and made it through the border, we entered Poipet...could be the worst place I've seen yet... the roads were mud, everything and everyone we saw were covered in mud. It was such a different place to Bangkok..It hit me, we were entering a third world country.
We got a bus to Siem Reip where we would stay for the next week. The road was terrible and bumpy the whole way...The driver could only drive slow, so it took a long time.
People lived in shacks and children with no clothes ran to the bus to wave at us.
We stopped off at a few places, at one point we were greeted by children who seemed ever so nice at first, but then they started begging and trying to sell us postcards. It's so difficult to get away from them, I felt awful for not giving anything, but we couldn't.
Eventually we met darkness, people still rode bikes and walked along the road with no lights or anything.
Eventually we entered Siem Reip. Lined with hotels and lit up it was beautiful, but so sad compared to what we'd just seen. Cambodia is split into two and they are from the extremes...
We found a hostel where we stayed one night, the next day we searched and found a nice hostel called Miss Oudoms, only $6 a night it's very much worth it.
That is where we are staying at at the moment until Saturday. We have booked a boat to take us to Phenom Phenn.
We bought a 7 day temple pass and have been exploring the Angkor temples, they are absolutly amazing. They were originally lost in the jungle until someone found them one day, they are thousands and thousands of years old.
