Just got back here to Manaus after 7days sailing down Amazon. Great trip despite cold showers and some torrential rain. Spent our days behind binoculars looking out for the wildlife which is not as easily found as you might think esp. further up river. However managed to see monkeys (brown Capuchin and squirrel monkeys) and though we never saw them we could frequently hear howler monkeys in the distance...........sounded quite sinister. Boa constrictor and another very poisonous snake whose name escapes me right now; a rather intimidating tarantula, green parrots, sloth and a very big cayman carrying a fish in it's mouth! We went out 3 sometimes 4 times a day on the canoe which we'd tugged behind us, both at day break and sunset and at night. Mosquitos quite bad at times. Edgie our guide was hawkeyed when it came to spotting ..........wildlife so very good at hiding and disguising.
Also left canoe to trudge through rainforest which was so very dense and quite difficult. Fortunately Edgie as well as having hawk eyes also has a Machete! Had to keep eyes open for snakes etc.
Went for swim one day which was esp. Nice as the water was warmer than our showers. Good trip but looking forward to comforts of hotel in Salvador where we fly this afternoon.
