So today we went to Kuranda, a village in the Rainforest with a butterfly sanctuary that we reached by cable car. The Skyrail was amazing. We had a good 30 minutes of stunning scenery as we sped over the canopy. There were stops along the way were we could get out and walk through the trees on a boardwalk to viewpoints obscured from the Skyrail.
On arrival the heavens opened! It was horrible having to wear a rain mac in such humidity but we were soon under cover as we walked along the parade of shops. We visited the butterfly sanctuary and the heritage market full of trinkets you'd expect at any craft market.
We found we had a lot of time to spare before the Train back to cairns departed so we made a very slow walk along the jungle walk back to the station. The plant life was amazing and we found a beautiful steam carved through the forest that I could have sat at for hours.
The scenic railway is a must - although very slow. The track has been carve into the side of the hill and it took us 2 hours to make the slow decent back to Cairns.
It must have taken a lot out of us because the moment my head hit the pillow at the hostel, I didn't wake until 7 the next morning. 12 hours sleep thank you!
