Well I am safely in Brisbane after 5 more hours on the greyhound. But I am glad and sad to say that is the end of the greyhound for me now as I fly to Sydney tomorrow, so the Australia leg of the trip is almost over!
As for the last few days I've had a lovely time on Fraser Island with some lovely people. The whitsundays was a hard act to follow and although Fraser did not surpass it, it was good all the same. I had a 14.5 hr journey to Hervey Bay and started the Fraser tour on 3.5 hrs sleep so it was never going to go amazingly well!
An early start saw us up and on the ferry bright and early. We saw some whales in the distance which brightened up the journey. The tour guide was a well meaning albeit slightly irritating guy, who struggled to get the 'team spirit' he was rallying for going. Despite this, we headed to a lake in the centre if the island and had a sunbathe before lunch. We were joined by a very large lizard who decided to crawl under the table over people feet, leading to an amusing chain reactions of gasps, screams and 'what was that's' until it dashed for cover under a bush instead. The afternoon was spent doing a nice jungle walk before tea and cookies and returning to the resort for the night. We were in simple, basic but nice rooms (with heaters!) so we all got showers and headed down to the bar/restaurant for a slap up pasta dinner. I headed to bed shortly after as I was exhausted a d the others weren't far behind me.
Day 2 had more promise after a good 8 hours sleep. We started off with a very long bumpy journey to the beach and the headed to the champagne pools where we had about 2 hours. After lunch by the bus overlooking the sea we walked up Indian head for some lovely views of the sea a d we saw more whales, turtles, manta and eagle rays among other things. We then carried on via the coloured sands and the shipwreck to Eli Creek, we walked/swam down the creek which was beautiful and lead us out onto the beach where there was tea and cookies waiting for us. This was the end of the tour so we bumped our way back across the island to the resort. As we had a few hours to kill before dinner we all jumped into the hot tub for a while. Dinner was pizza, and at 8 we caught the ferry back to the main land.
I was up early this morning ready for my 5 hours on the greyhound and I am now safely tucked up in my hostel in Brisbane, ready to fly to Sydney tomorrow.
