Well Christchurch wasn't much to write home about, it is still recovering from the earthquakes and has a long way to go. I left via a tour of the suburbs due to the driver knowing the area. The place was like a ghost town as most buildings, homes etc were deemed unsafe for habitation so everyone left. After this rather sad tour we headed for Kaikoura. The scenery was nice although the clouds were hiding the peaks. The hostel we stayed at was nice although the 4 other girls on the bus were about 18, all had flu and so I decided to hang back in Kaikoura a few days to get the next bus. In the mean time a had a few amazing hot chocolates in a lovely little quirky cafe and walked to the seal colony. I was glad I did hang back a bus as I met 3 lovely people who arrived about lunchtime on day 2. We then went to a local fishermans to try some seafood and drink wine. It made for a lovely afternoon/evening before heading to Picton the next day. The hostel in Picton was very original and really cute so we settled in quickly before heading out for a 3hour walk before dinner, chatting with free apple crumble from the hostel and bed. I am heading out today for Abel Tasman on a new bus. Sad to be leaving these guys behind but hopefully there will be some nice ones in the next bus.
