BRISBANE- SYDNEY-ALICE SPIRNGS-DARWIN-THE EAST COAST
To whom would like to know,
I started my second travelling adventure this time 6 days ago! I flew from Brisbane to Sydney, leaving a loved one, awesome housemates and the humidity behind, and set off to explore one of the most iconic cities in the world, and what a beautiful experience it has been so far...
Upon my arrival in Sydney a very kind friend (Layla Howick) met me at the Bondi Junction train station. Due to her kindness, I would be staying with Layla and her boyfriend for the week. It has been lovely spending time with them both, learning that both Layla and I have a lot in common, talking to someone like minded has been great and I couldn't be more grateful for their hospitality!
The sites! The first day was a mild, clear skied, 22 degrees- I say mild, I have been living in the tropical, humid state of Queensland, which has an average temperature of 28 degrees- so I took a walk to Bondi beach, this beach is particularly famous for unco swimming Brits, to be saved by the Aussie lifeguards as the ocean here is dangerously rough. Luckily, in this instance nobody needed to be rescued.
Bondi was packed of backpackers! I chilled all day on the white sand and had a dip in the ocean, which was beautifully clear and fressshh as!
I made it back to Bondi the second day with Layla where we walked the famous Bondi-Coogee walk. The water was perfect, crisp blue, turquoise, turning white when the waves broke on shore. I had evidently chosen a good week to visit, as a festival called 'sculptures by the sea' was on! The sculptures ran from Bondi to the middle of the walk to Coogee. The artists that put on the show were from all over the world, some of the art work looked to be so creative from a distance, but as you got to have a closer look, some really were quite simple. One in particular was pretty much a form of recycle. The artist had collected 100s of different types and colours of bottle tops and linked them together through wire. The pictures does it more justice than my description. The pictures I took of the event deserve to be framed if I say so myself.
During my time in Sydney I wanted to see and do as much as possible. Although, I am on a budget, but that isn't going to stop me! I found a free three hour city tour, ran by a young Sydney sider girl. We learnt everything from when the first ship of prisoners to set sail from Portsmouth, where the first few buildings were built by the criminals, to todays australian gambling obsession (on average to date, each Aussie spends $2,000 each on gambling). The tour was awesome costing me only $5 in tips, the girl definitely deserved more, but my budget did not think so
Another picturesque spot I visited was an island just off Sydney called Manley, home to another famous walk the spit to Manley, also the same area as the 'home and away' set. I caught the ferry from Circular Quay at around 10am, I wanted to spend the whole day in Manley, and hoped that the day would be a bright and clear one.
