Arrived in bangkok 2 nights ago and after the most painful journey i have ever been on, which consisted of Taxi then Ferry then Tuc Tuc then Plane the Bus not to mention the various sick stops i had to make!! However there was no one was to blame apart from myself as i thought than rather than even trying to find myself a room for the night i thought it would be a much better idea to party (very hard) until i had to get in the first taxi to the ferry port at 7 in the morning!! I have learnt my lesson!
After struggling through customs at Bangkok airport i paid for a bus wich was 150 baht just over 2 quid to the big Khao San Road. Arrived there safe and sound and only had one thing on my mind and that was getting a room with a shower and having a very good nap! Checked into The Khao San Palace which will do for a couple of nights although it was onthe kinda pricey side of things at 550 baht but wasnt too bothered at that moment in time!
Really liked bangkok as soon as i got there as although there was alot of hustle and bustle it was nothing compared to Hong Kong and the prices seemed to be at about a quarter of the price! For anybody that hasnt been to khao san road its about the length of the Broadway in haywards heath with a market running its way down the the whole length of the strip with a few shops and loads of bars either behind it or on top of them. Right opposite my hostel there was a bar called Shamrocks with loud english chart music bellowing and a pool table... this would do me for a quick drink and something to eat before getting my very needed early night.... exactly what i did as i was falling asleep over my dinner!!!
Woke up the second day and had planned on getting a tuc tuc to a river just on the out skirts of bankok to get a river boat ride as i have heard that this is where you see thailands real side away from the tourist side... pointed to a Tuc Tuc driver where i wanted to go on the map and his exact words were 'hello my friend, you English?' i said yes i am good to meet can i go here (pointing to the map) he replied saying 'No problem boss' so arranged a price at 70 baht and off we went. This was an experience i was never going to forget as he was weaving in and out of traffic, skipping red lights etc... had so many near death experinces on that one trip, it really was unbelivable! After being in the tuc tuc for about 25 mins i began to question where we were actually going as all the road names we were going through were no where to be seen on the map i had infront of me so i made him pull over and as a typical foreigner decided to turn his english off, Brilliant!!! I ended up in a huge huge shopping mall with a concert out side with a load of youngsters who were the muts nuts and breakdancing, so actually had quite a good afternoon! Although i should have probably been more anxious of where he was taking me there was always loads of other Tuc Tuc drivers about and all you had to say was Khao san road and they all new where it was so felt a little safer.
Got back at about 6 that evening and sat down at the same bar opposite where i was staying. Asking this guy who looked like a typical backpacker (long wavey hair, tanned right up, brcelets halfway up his arm, no t shirt no shoes just a pair of shorts on!) if any one was sitting on a table that was joined to his, nicest guy youll meet and from there on had 2 awesome nights with him and this girl that he had met on Koh Tao.
Have met lots of people that are ont there wayback home and every single one of them has said how jealous they are of me being able to do it again for the first time.. the most reassuring thing that anyone could say to me...! Bangkok has an awesome night life with so many backpackers that have so much in common however three nights really is enough time here to see all although i didnt get to see a ping pong show which i was a little mift about but theres always next time!!
When you read this ill be in kanchanaburi which is about 2 hours east of bangkok where ill be trekking and elephant riding etc... such a s***e life this!!!
love to all xxx
