I'm currently at Heathrow Airport waiting for my flight to Kuala Lumpur. It took longer than originally planned to prepare for my trip, but I think I'm as ready now as I'm ever going to be.
I've spent the past few days saying goodbye to friends and family, which has been hard. However, as the weather has been getting colder and the days shorter, I am feeling more inspired about going to warmer places.
Airports are dull places. Most of the shops here are designer brands. There's a shop that only sells whisky. I'm sipping on a camomile and honey tea, sitting next to a power outlet where my phone is charging as I write this. Getting through security was slow, having to juggle a laptop, kindle, cameras and other items that need separate scanning. They pulled a lot of people aside for the full body scan so it was very slow.
Anyway, I've got nothing of interest to write yet so I'll go and browse some more overpriced tat in the shops and wait for my gate. Hopefully it'll be a smooth flight to KL. The forecast says heavy showers there, but they'll be tropical showers so I think I'll cope. It hasn't yet sunk in that I'm really doing this - it might do once I'm in a city I've never been to before.
Thanks mum and dad for driving me to the airport, even though it was a stressful journey. Hopefully the next blog post will have a more inspiring photo!
