Screen walls look great but you can hear everything that is happening in the rest of the building - every yawn, sneeze and fart!
We had a nice day today (again). In the morning we took th ebus to Kur-Alp, an (indoor) hot-spring complex. At first glance it looked like any indoor swimming pool complex in the UK somewhere between Noel Street baths and Centre Parks but on top of a mountain. In a big open room with glass walls and overlooking the town of Takayama and the hills and mountains behind it. What made it different to anything else I've been to before (apart from the view) was that in the pools they had an array of jets and waterfalls designed to massage pretty much every muscle group! That, combined with the sauna overlooking the mountains, and outdoor jacuzzi on the terrace (see photo) and the conventional pool for doing lengths, meant that after three hours we were thoroughly relaxed to the point that it was hard to walk and keep our backs straight! So we decided to head back to the hostel/temple and have a read and a nap for the rest of the afternoon. Sweet. We're now preparing to go for a Hida beef steak in town which blows or budget for anything tomorrow at 3,000 yen a head (about 15 GBP) apart from reading, chilling and maybe I might try my hand at some drawing? Everyone else seems to be doing it. Tomorrow we are also leaving the temple to spend the night in a Ryokanround the corner - Em reckons it will be pretty much the same but without all the dust. It is very dusty here. It will also have a bath.
Just had a noisy poo - I think the people in the other side of the building heard me go. I could hear the turning pages of their books as they were reading in the nearby room. It was a fine moment. I will never see these people again thnk goodness. No really, I'm not bothered, it was just funny. Those pesky screen walls at it again!
(note from em - if you ever go travelling, never ever go without earplugs!)
