So yesterday we went to the Limestone Labyrinth Rocks. A place run by and English guy with cool rock formations to explore. Then we went to the beach, and did some general exploring.
Today we wen to see the Devil's Boots, some more rock formations that this time look like boots upended sticking out of the ground. Then we went to Wharariki Beach which had some awesome caves, and where we had our best experience yet on the trip. We found a pair of seals playing in some shallows around a cave entrance. We sat for about half an hour watching them, and by the end of it they were coming to within about a metre of us. They were cool. We then went out onto Farewell Spit which is the top of the South Island, and we found a whale carcass. About 3 weeks ago there was a stranding and they managed to save 70% of the whales, but some were left.
Tomorrow we are heading off to Christchurch, stopping overnight in St Arnaud in the Nelson Lakes National Park.
