So first week in Santiago has been a bit of a mixed bag, got off the flight at seven in the morning and went straight up into the mountains with Harry my brother. Was an awesome day and my skiing was not too dire, my skiing ain't pretty but I get down the piste in one piece normally.
As far as Santiago goes, its not the prettiest city in the world, my brother tells me the chileans like to build onto their old buildings so there is not a lot of them around. But its pretty fun and the restaurants are exceptional as is the food.
We went to an epic party on Sunday, Harry's (my brother) friend Choche Rencrot was having his birthday party and invited us and it was staggering. They all started drinking at midday and kept going till midnight, with some great food thrown in including a MASSIVE paella and some melt in your mouth beef. They were all incredibly helpful with my spanish and all very friendly. Watching Harry's friend WIll trying to get it on with this chilean girl for the entire day whilst getting steadily drunker and drunker was the highlight. They had a veritable family of dogs including the biggest fecking mastiff I have ever seen!!! Myself, harry, will and Choche's singing of 'I'm on fire' by Bruce Springsteen was bloody funny as were the shocked looks on everybody's faces. What was even more staggering was mother Rencrot's absolutely perfect castilian spanish, there was no slang, no slipping of words no chilean accent, it was perfect and reassuring to hear and vaguely understand.
It is bloody cold here, like English winter cold, which is a bit of a b*****, but at least I have Brazilian summer to look forward to. The work experience I have been doing in a shipping agency has been pretty dull because they seem to think i am only there to talk spanish and not too learn about their company, so I am stuck in a corner and ignored a bit. But on the bright side I may be going to work in a vineyard owned by a friend of my brother's which should be amazing, and I will get to do some horse riding, this year abroad stuff is really hard haha.
Otherwise just looking forward to argentina and starting a hands on job, although I keep getting told how hard it will be, hopefully I can handle it.
Hopefully this is not too boring dudez, enjoy x
