After 2 early morning starts we have a well deserved lie in!! Today we decide to chill in our apartment, the weather is not going to be great and a recharge and venture around the town to get supplies is the order of the day. (After all 6 months traveling there is going to be some days when a duvet day is needed!!!) Sarah makes the most delicious coffee and we take a stroll to the village to get resources for a home made Italian meal from the local produce. In our town there is a mozzarella factory, I hear the cows / buffalo in the fields behind us and the workers in the factory beside us so that is definitely on the shopping list! As we wander up the road there is a bakery and a fresh pasta shop. The bakery must make the bread for the shops but the pasta shop is open to walk in and buy. It's like a takeaway because you can have it cooked or to cook yourself. We look on the menu and raveoli sounds good as Sarah 'master chef' Foster has an idea of what can accompany it. The man is very accommodating and recommends which one and how much we need. We have found the locals here to be lovely even though we have only been to the shop and bar!! The cost of this is 4€ for 12 pieces... See photo! The next stop is the grocery shop where Sarah picks out the vegetables and herbs she will need to make the feast, a gentleman weighs them and a local lady barters with Sarah for some of the fresh parsley she has as we had the last, got to keep the locals sweet so we surrender some!! Inside we get some fresh sliced salami and bread with a few other bits and queue to pay. Now it's taken you a few seconds to read this but trust me it took a few more minutes to pay for our wares, it's a good job we weren't in a rush to get anywhere but hey its local time!!! They use their daily shop as a social event!!! Carrying our purchases down the hill I realise we don't have any wine to compliment the food so I veer off into another grocery shop nearer our apartment (really don't know how they all stay in business!! I'll explain why after!!) I stand looking at the hundreds of bottles and pick up one that is not the cheapest and looks ok (not that I'm an expert or anything!) 2€ ....bonus.
Back at the apartment we have a little munch on some bread, olives, mozzarella, tomatoes and salami and then laze on the hammock reading for a few hours. Sarah then decides to do some research on the local area and some of the places we want to visit, during this productive time she finds out there are 4000 approx. residents in this village up the mountain, hence why it astounds me that the shops; the stock they hold and the variety of them can sustain business, after all most of the population speed up and down the mountain into the main town everyday as we explained in the previous blog!
Anyway, Sarah also finds information on trains and buses which means the car can be parked for the duration of our stay here, this will prevent any risk of injury or heart attack from the crazy roads!!! The weather forecast has been studied also so tomorrow is not so great so a trip to Naples is the plan. As time goes by Sarah then gets to work in the well equipped kitchen and I pour the wine!!! The smell is amazing and the dish that is served before me is even more amazing, fresh ravioli filled with meat and cheese, served on a bed of salad, drizzled with a garlic and herb infused olive oil, accompanied with sliced bread. Yummy.... See photos!!!
