MEKONG DELTA 28TH-29TH DECEMBER 2006
We took a tour through the Mekong Delta which was two days, one night and ended up in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. (12 pounds each).
We took a bus to My Tho City on the Mekong Delta where we got on a boat to three different islands on the Mekong river to visit the villages. Each visit specialised in some form of food or drink which we got to watch the making of and sample. The first being coconut candies which were so tasty, the next being a bee-keeping family where we had natural honey tea and honey wine, and the last being tropical fruits which we ate whilst being played Southerners' traditional music. Next we took rowing boats into the jungle through small canals. In the late afternoon we returned to My Tho where we took a bus to Chau Doc town and checked into a hotel for the night.
The next morning after breakfast we went to visit the floating fish farm village by boat, where more than 200 families farm catfish on the lower river region. We then had a few hours boat journey to the Song Tien border. This journey had increadible scenery and it was great going past the houses as the local children would run down the banks shouting and waving at us.
We got our stamps out of Vietnam and then to the check point at the immigration department at Komxenor on the Cambodian side. We then got another boat, a bus and two car ferries before arriving in Phnom Penh - Cambodia's capital at 8pm in the evening.
It was a really relaxed and nice way to enter Cambodia and great to see the Mekong Delta as it was a calm beautiful and natural side of Vietnam we hadn't seen.
