Welcome to South America!
Capurganá, Colombia
After 4 and a half months in Central America I arrived in South America and it took me approximately 5 minutes to be blown away, which is an impressive feat after 4 days on the beautiful San Blas Islands with the Kuna people.
We arrived into Carpugana by boat; the first thing I notice is how the water is an amazing blue-green colour. I have been through the Caribbean and never seen water this colour and set against the rainforest covered hills behind it is an amazing sight.
Carpugana is a small town stuck in a time warp (in a good way), no motorised vehicles whatsoever. We only had to come here to wait for the boat to Turbo the next day but we are all happy to spend the night as it is relaxed and cheap.
We are travelling in a big group of 14 as were all off the boat from Panama and it's really refreshing to arrive somewhere in a big group of friends rather than alone and wondering what's in store!
We find a nice hostel then spend the day chilling out and eating Buñuelos and Carimañolas. So good, some of the best street food I've had on my trip
We leave there at 7.30am the next day for Turbo. Turbo is listed as one of the very few places in Colombia that are now considered dangerous and as soon as the boat docks we all want to get out of there!
In the 30 minutes we spend in the town Shane is pickpocketed by a 6 year old under orders of his mother! However after being ripped off for a collectivo we are on our way to Medellin. We say good bye to 2 of our group but power on a dozen strong to see what Pablo Escobar's former home has in store for us.
No pictures for this town as had no camera battery after the San Blas so included a picture of that instead.
