We arrived in singapore at about 6pm. As soon as we got off of the plane the humidity really hit us. I have never felt heat like it! But then, seeing as it's on the equator, we really should have been prepared! Luckily for us we had an air conditioned dorm otherwise we would have been in trouble!
After getting the bus into the city centre we headed for the hostel where we were met by Nisha and Sonal who are joining us for this leg of the journey - it was really nice to see them! anyway, I'll give you a quick run down of what we got up to during our time there...
- We ate out at so many nice food places. The food is so cheap - you can get a dish with rice and a drink for about 3 quid if you know where to look, and it really was amazing
- we visited Little India, China Town and the Colonial District. We saw lots of temples, but my favourite thing was going round the market in Little India - amazing. The smell as you walk in was quite overpowering due to all the fish (nisha walked around with her nose blocked!), but the sites were amazing. People trading with each other everywhere and gutting fish and chickens right in front of us - quite an interesting thing to see!
- We also went to sentosa Island on the first day, just off of the south coast of Singapore, where we lazed around and swam in the sea - quite a nice break from the heat which was about 35 degrees at that point! We also caught a chair lift on the island to the top of this massive hill (which seemed a little unsafe to say the least!). The best bit was coming down though - there's a massive track on the hill and you get to drive little go karts down it to the bottom which was exciting!
-Most importantly it was my birthday! Yes, I am now 22. As part of the festivities we went for drinks at Harbour and Boat Quay and tried unsuccessfully to go out for a meal. What a palarva that was! We got there, sat down, picked what we wanted only to be told that they had no chicken so that was half of the menu out of the window. Then sonal asked for a sprite and they had run out of that, but she was told that, thank goodness, she could have a roast jelly drink!!!! Well, this started much laughter, so much so sonal had to leave the restaurant to calm down. i think you had to be there but it was very funny, although the waitress thought we were a bit rude! Then it was off to the Raffles for a Singapore Sling which was amazing. The building was beautiful and the drink was lovely! I even got a birthday cake free of charge from Hari our waiter and everyone sang happy birthday - definitely one to remember!
Anyway, I've uploaded some of the pictures, but I'm in Vietnam at the moment and am having technological difficulties aka crap computers! More will follow shortly...
