Hi we have flown from Vientiane in Laos to Siem Reap in Cambodia.
We flew with Laos Airways in a small plane with propellers on the wings! It only seated about 60 people at a guess! It was great as it only took 1hour 25mins to get here. We are now doing 6 hour bus journeys quite regularly so it felt like minutes to get here!
We decided to rent bikes from our guest house for the afternoon and cycle to Angkor Wat. It cost us 2 US dollars for the day!
We cycled up to Angkor Wat & spent a few hours walking around the temple. It was interesting & we got to go up to the top of one of the temples which was cool. We saw all of the Bas- Riel's which are artwork on the Walls of the temple showing images of heaven & hell & war.
Then we cycled over to Angkor Thom. It was awesome as the long road that leads from Angkor Wat to Angkor Thom has wild monkeys on it. There are also elephants giving people rides which was cool to cycle past too.
We walked around Bayon which has the faces carved into the stone work & took some beautiful pictures as the sun had started to come down.
We then cycled on to see some of the other temples within. Angkor Thom. We cycled past the elephant terrace & off roaded it a bit around a few other temples. It was great fun.
Our bikes were really old & had no gears. But Dando did look pretty with his bicycle with a basket!! Hehe!
The traffic was mental cycling back to Siem Reap. The cars & millions of motorbikes basically dodge you & you have to dodge what is in front of you.
We did well until the traffic became one way & we tried to turn up a one way street. (There is so much traffic you can't really look at the turn & your path through traffic at the same time). So we gave up & cycled on the pavement back to the guesthouse.
We went to Siem Reap's night Market that evening. Then went to 'The Khmer Kitchen' for dinner. Which was right next to the Market with authentic Khmer food. It was delicious. I ordered Khmer kitchen soup which had chicken, onion, carrot, garlic & mushroom in a broth & I also had fried pork ribs. Yum! Dando had a really nice Khmer chicken curry & rice.
We liked Siem Reap but decided we didn't want another day at Angkor Wat so have booked a bus to the capital Phnom Penh tomorrow.
Lots of love
