Hey
Well, Singapore what can i say - it's like a futuristic city in the middle of SE Asia!
There are lots of Orchids, butterflies and Merlions everywhere and the people are the nicest, friendliest, most helpful people so far. If you're looking a little lost everyone tries to help. They don't try to rip you off either!
We arrived in Singapore after yet another rip off bus journey (we were told it would take 5 hours from KL therefore arriving at 11.30 with enough time to find accom - however we rolled up at 1.30 in the morning to be told that the only places open were hotels!) We managed to find a relatively cheap hotel thanks to a nice taxi driver. The room was so nice and by far the poshest yet so we tried and used everything - as much free coffee, chocolate and noodles as we could get. The room even had a DVD player and we got very excited over this and snuggled down to watch some newly bought pirate DVDs (pirates of caribean and spidey 3) only to then find out that they were all in thai and we couldn't understand a word! lol
The next day we certainly made the most of our time and after booking in to a really nice cheap hostel we explored china town, trying as many new foods as we could (pink fluffy cakes that tasted of spongey water, pork wrapped in yellow stuff and dough filled with some sort of meat!). We then caught the amazingly clean and organised MRT to the harbour where we caught the glass cable car over to Sentosa island. Here, we visited the merlion and took in the views. Heading back we went to the first asian Hooters for dinner (Tom's choice!) and looked around Clarke Quay which is apparently where it all happens at night! We then did a river cruise along the Singapore river which was utterly beautiful with all the lights from markets, tall buildings, posh hotels and various other tourist attractions. Later on that eve we headed out to Raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling at the long bar - very tasty!
Friday we hit Orchard Rd the shopping district which we both felt was a bit of a disappointment as it was soo like shopping a home. I got a singapore dress made and Tom bought a top of the range hard drive camcorder for a third of the price that i paid for mine! argh! It was today at breakfast that we met a guy who had been travelling for 18 years! he lived off of 3,000 a year! amazing hey? We then managed to quickly send some stuff home to lighten our bags before being picked up for our night safari at the famous Singapore Zoo! This was an experiince although i must say not as good as i was expecting. We saw twi shows the cratures of the night which was pretty appaling and the fire show which was amazing but starred no animals. The actual safari was good but you could see more when we walked around the zoo after.
Anyhow, that finished off our time in Singapore as we left at 5am the next morning for the airport - which is a sight in itself.
