Following a malaria pill chucking-down-the-sink ceremony on Monday night (we didn't need to take the last few, having come to the end of our prescription course), we were rudely awoken at stupid-o-clock (about 5.45am!) thanks to the lovely sounds of prayer calling! Then the kids from a neighbouring room thought it would be fun to keep the whole of the hostel awake by running round the corridors, yelling - little sh*ts! Who'd 'av 'em!?! We finally gave in and rolled out of our pits at 7.00am, when we were greeted by an upside down Mexican! - He was apparently practicing yoga! We managed to drag ourselves into a cold shower to revitilise before heading down to a breakfast of yoghurt, fruit and muesli, toast with jam and butter, unlimited coffee, sausage, fried eggs and cold beans! We poured the remaining of our third coffee into Sarah's flask and headed towards the travel agents (where we booked our bus ticket), at the Komtar building. A mini bus transported us to the coach station where we boarded the VIP-style coach (large, comfy, business class-style seats) to Kuala Lumpur (aka KL).
We departed on time at 10.30am and made good ground arriving at 4.20pm in KL. We found our hostel straight away, dumped our packs and headed straight out for a long-overdue and much needed coffee and cake at Starbucks! We indulged ourselves with the Christmas special toffee nut latte and tirimisu slice. Mmm-mmm! We spent the rest of the afternoon wondering Chinatown and the many stalls crammed with counterfeit designer goods. In the evening we enjoyed the atmosphere of our hostel's rooftop terrace, chatting to the barman and ex-pat now living in New Zealand.
Today we rose at 6.15am and caught an early train (stopping en-rout at Maccie's for a hash brown) to the Petronas Tower - the world's tallest pair of twin towers. After queuing for a free ticket we took the lift to the 41st floor to the walkway that connects the two towers for lovely views. Yes Laura DID make it across without holding onto Sarah! When we got back down to earth we wondered through the plush shopping centre section of the towers (ensuring not to look DIRECTLY at the shops), wondered through the KLCC Park and made our way to Malaysia Tourism Centre for some city info. Then it was to the Menara KL Tower (looks similar to the CN Tower) for some gorgeous views of the city. We were also granted the privilege of being able to use our ticket at night, too - it pays to be cheeky and ask! We spent the rest of the afternoon arranging our transport to Singapore, dodging the afternoon showers, re-washing our laundry, getting a fruit-kick and chilling before heading out to Kenny Rodger's Roasters for chicken baked potato and muffins. Satisfyingly stuffed we walked off our dinner on our second trip to Menara Tower for twilight views of the city. Later in the evening we settled back at the hostel in front of 'Prison Break' (much to Laura's delight!), chomping on pineapple.
