Yesterday Sarah woke early, having not been able to sleep much due to itchy sun-sore skin! We were both re-packed and ready to leave the room by 10.30am-ish, the lady kindly let us leave our bags in the room until we were ready to catch our bus into Mapusa for our bus to Bangalore. We spent the morning shopping for provisions for our journey, which included crisps, cookies and Danish pastries, then had an early lunch of cheese, tomatoe and egg (!) toasties and chips.
We were early on to the 2.00pm bus to Mapusa and arrived with an hour and a half to spare. Once the bus turned up a little after 4.30pm, looking nothing like a 'Sleeper Coach' (!), we soon found out that this mini bus was to pick us up, then go to Calangute, then Panjim, where our Sleeper Coach was awaiting to depart from at 6.30pm! Annoying, as we could have made our own way to Panjim, if we had been told!!
We finally settled on the bus and departed on time (near enough!), we were quite comfortable in our double bunk and the food didn't last long! Once we tried to settle into slumber, we soon found out that we weren't quite as comfortable as we thought. The roads were unbelievably bumpy and the bus was freezing - we actually thought we might die of frost bite in the Indian desert! Unfortunately our sleeping bags were in the boot.
At 12.30pm today, and over 3 hours late, we finally arrived in Bangalore. Having no accommodation booked, we managed to get a room (complete with tellie!) in our preferred hotel - The Royal Lodge. We checked in and then headed straight for the train station to book our final two train journeys in India. We then made our way to the disappointing Cubbon Park and MG Road, before heading back for dinner (veg biryani and banana split! Mmm!), back near the hotel and a well-needed early night.
