Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a brief snippet of what we saw today...
We basically had a once in a life-time kind of day!
We got up extra early, claimed our free 'tour breakfast' and then took the 2 hour journey to Mutianyu, a village at part of the Great Wall of China. It was a planned tour so we didn't have to make our own way there, however you sometimes feel you'd be safer doing that..the roads are a nightmare! Roundabouts are more about just merging onto it rather than looking right for traffic coming at you! The bus driver didn't brake quite early enough at one point, and although he managed to stop before the red light he did manage to bump into the van in front and clip his wing mirror. Awesome! (No more bus tours for us in China.)
Anyway, when we got there we were taken up to the wall on a 'cable car', rather than climb up the steps, which wears you out before you even get there! When we chose to take the 'cable car', we didn't realise it was like a ski lift. I am not one for heights. The Great Wall is very high. You can see the problem here. So basically I (Lau) closed my eyes most of the way up, but Lou got lots of great pictures to show me afterwards, great view!!
Then we walked the Wall. We went from the 6th tower to the 22nd, which i believe is about 16km, all up hill then down hill, up hill then downhill etc! And very steep at many points! I almost couldn't make the last one (as you will see from the photo, it was so steep and long!!!) but we made it to the top to see the amazing views. It was absolutely incredible. I'll never forget it. Then we had to go all the way back!! Although it did seem a little bit easier, maaan it was still hard! However, we were able to look forward to getting back down from the wall...by tobboggan!! That was great and a little bit scary at the same time! Then we walked to a restaurant where we went for a buffet lunch which was actually like chinese take away from home, that never happens!
Anyway, today was just something we had to tell you all about straight away. I am hoping to get a couple of photos up here...if it doesn't take too long!! Enjoy x x
