Hi All,its been a busy couple of weeks! Croatia one moment, Spain the next, what a life. The crew for this trip were: Bron and Stinky for 2 nights and The rookie and Deneil for 1. Getting up for a 7.00am flight out of Stanstead was never going to be ideal but it was made memorable by our minicab driver who got totally lost but made the time back by driving 90mph down the motorway....god bless him! For those who don't know London, Stanstead is in Essex about 75ms East of Central London....not a good place to depart from when you live in West London. As usual we were last to board our flight with (sl)easyjet. Unluckily for some other poor souls they didn't make the gate and thus had their bags taken off the flight even though it would have been quicker for them to just let them on.Upon flying into Bilboa there was heavy drizzle. Our Cabin Crew assured us this would clear throughout the day......it didn't. After separate buses totalling 3.5 hours in total we had made into to Mundaka where the surfing was being held. Drenched and need of a decent meal we rolled into town only to remember it was siesta and nothing besides bars were open… so its was sangria all round! After putting a few away and realising the rain was going to stop (it had actually got harder) we headed out and bought some 'Spanish playing cards', beers and vodka and headed back to the cabin. Apparently in Spain they don't believe in aces, or queens but they do have an affinity with the number 1 card. After a few hands of b******ised card games with cheating rife, stumps were called and we headed off to hit the hay.Early Saturday The rookie and Deneil arrived and headed down the contest site knowing full well there would be no surfing. What to do in Mundaka when there's no surf? Looks like its sangria all round! Stink thought he'd stumbled upon a gem of a liqueur recommended by the local bar keep only to find out after 4 or 5 that it was non alcoholic and suddenly I was €20 richer! As the day rolled on and both the pro's and spectators got more and more bored (and drunk) and with the Aussies lost the rugby people turned their attention to the night ahead..... pretty much more of what went on in the arvo but with louder music, strobe lights and a discoball that rivalled Saturday night fever.Sunday we woke up feeling decidedly crusty and hung. After about 2 litres of post mix coke and not seeing any surfing we decided to cut our losses and head in to Bilboa for a look around. Spirits were lifted at the sight of a burger king and after some more post mix coke we set about cruising town. Bilboa was a magnificent, old city with a modern, hip feel to it. Even though it was late Sunday arvo all the cafes were open and people were in the streets in abundance. We sat down and had a few beers, some verve and talked dribble (my specialty).
We rocked up at the airport to be told that our flight would be delayed by an hour. Yippee! Back in Stanstead at 12am and with work to look forward the trip home was less than desirable; luckily my boss was off work for a week thus I could recover the next day work.
