Lost in Europe
ok, quick notes about morocco.
firstly, absolutely loved it. gtreat food, interesting ppl, beautiful contrasting landscapes and not as cold as london although it has to be said not one for the faint of heart. dont think ive ever had so many touts hassle me as in marrakech and apparently its actually improved over the past 5 years!
ok, so to cut to the chase:
- Marrackech - awesome place. lots of different characters. ppls with snakes, selling carpet/food/clothes, freaks, beggars, women with needles chasing you for tattoo's and plenty of french. the square is electric at night when the night food stalls start. they all essentially sell the same food however the selling point is what story they can tell you, be it fabricated or a complete lie. take note, if you're going to marrakech make sure you take thorough directions on how to get back to your riad, its a bit tricky. we learnt the hard way.
- Atlas Mtns/Todra Gorge/The Sahara - We just organised this last minute. Ended up with a bit of a cowboy outfit. The 'guide' ie bus driver didnt speak english....or french.....or spanish! at least we weren't promised 3star accom like others! scenery was unbelieveable, snowing in the atlas mtns, sunny in Sahara, freezing at night, warm during the day. all very disorganised to point where we slelpt under the same blanket we rode the on the camels. Bron = very unimpressed, shes still apparently not clean. Met some good ppl, had a bunch of laughs too so was good. Sunset and sunrise were highlights
- Essouira - Nice little beach port with some epic waves....sadly it was 12ft+ and i didnt have my boards so no waves for me. Admittedly it did rain incessantly to the point of flash floods. Most rain in 15 years according to this wacky french guy who owned a little resteraunt, with what I could only describe as kitchen smaller than that of my 1bdr flat in london! good food though. Oh, another tip, if you have the choice between a reputable bus company that costs £5 and one which is a little on the cowboy side for £3 take the £5 jobbie. produce, detours and god knows what else....again bron not happy, was a laugh in hindsight tho.
anyway thats about it. sorry for spelling mistakes etc.....im pretty lazy
