Hello from the town of her Majesty's!!!!  we have been here a few days now and we are actually going to stay here until Wednesday so it will have been a week. What can I say, Queenstown is the place to be and we dont want to leave!!!! Its such a cool town, full of backpackers and has such a great atmosphere, and its so pretty as its surrounded by these huge mountains and a lake. Its a shame I wont get to see it covered in snow as its too mild at the moment and the ski season doesnt start for another 2 months.
We all really enjoyed our time in Framz Josef. Our glacier hike was so much fun, and it was the best thing I've done so far, the sky dive was great but this was so good as it was a full day and it was all just so pretty. We were all geared u, walking shoes, ice picks, crampons (spikes) for our shoes to climb on the ice) the whole lot, we were properly kitted out. The glacier is so spectacular, its surrounded by the rainforest so quite bizzare too. The walk was long and it took us 4 hours to climb up to the main part of it, was really tiring as we were having to climb up really steep parts, and then go down with ropes, we loved it!!!!!!! Was a long day and by the end of it, we were all ready for our beds!!! The views were amazing though, well worth all that hard work. I felt like Lara Croft with my ice pik, and going down and up ropes ;-) Our legs were so sore by the end of the day!!!!!!
Poor Sam had her purse stolen too in Franz Jo so thats been so much hassle trying to get her new cards etc sorted out, esp as shes travelling for so long, bless her. It was taken from the room too which is really bad. You really cant trust anyone!!!!!
After Franz Josef, we got on the good old Magic bus and headed down to Wanaka, a really pretty town just before Queenstown. Wanaka is definatly the prettiest place we have stayed in, its just surrounded by so many hills and mountains and its right down in a valley. WE went for lots of walks there and also went to the famous cinema they have there. Its so crazy, its full of random couches and big soft comfy cushions and beanbags, so not your usual cinema seats, everyone just lounges about watching a film, and theres even an old car at the front which you can sit and watch the film!!!! was really funny. they also have an interval during the film and you can pre order your dinner and then bring it back in and watch it infront of the huge screen, we had the nicest cookies, they cook them fresh ready for the break!!!! We saw Last King of Scotland, great film!!!!! Sam also did her 2nd skydive in Wanaka, and Hayley did her first one too. Hayley wasnt scared at all, and just went straight in and did it, no messing about or holding back (not like Sam and I when we did ours)!!!!! EXTEME Hayley is her new nic name, she has no fear!!!!!
On our last day we walked up to Puzzle World where we managed to get soooooo unbelievably STUCK in this crazy maze, apparently most people get stuck in there for hours trying to complete the challanges they give you. Was actually really funny, we were all getting so mad, and it was a really hot day which wasnt good!!!!!They have these really cool illusion rooms too which were good fun. Wanaka is a pretty popular ski resort too, so Sam is thinking of going back there once the season starts. WE then just sat around the lake on our last day which was really nice, as the weather was great.
So then we went from Wanaka to Queenstown and we're having a great time. WE've got some great room mates in our dorm, 2 girls called Charlie and Katie, they are sooo much fun and we've all been out pretty much every night since we got here. Also met up with a few people who we have met on our trip. Theres this really funky bar called the World Bar where they give you your drink in a tea pot!!!!! Pretty funny. Its definatley the party capital of NZ and also the extreme town too. Everyhwre you go theres different activities etc to do, you can see how people spend so much money when they get here!!! We watched Hayley do a bungy jump yesterday at the original AJ Hakkett site, she's crazy, again she just walked right in and signed up for it. It looked scary and Im so glad im not doing a bungy!!!! It was 43metres, over a river, she just jumped right off and her head went under the water, and her top came up, and bra ;-) It was soooooo funny to watch!!!!
Have done lots of walking here in Queenstown too, although most days we have had pretty bad hangovers ;-( but the other day we decided to walk to the gondolas/cable cars, it was an hour walk to the top, all up hill and was so steep, I really struggled!!!!! At the top, theer is another bungy jump to do and also the luge which we did, they are like mini go carts and we had such a good laugh on them!!!!!!!! The view from the top is great, you can see right Queenstown, and you have the ski lifts going up right next to you, with the skydivers coming down on the other side of you,was a really nice afternoon up there.
We also found out yesterday that the Kiwi bus ( which is like the magic bus but just another company) crashed just outside Franz Jo 2 days ago, we saw it on the news but then we realised some of our friends were on the bus. Luckily, no one was badly injured, a few broken arms and minor injuries but it was awful hearing about it. One of our friends is hobbling about our hostel on crutches and his leg is pretty badly cut up! They were all really luckily by the sounds of things, went of the side of a steep vereg but was stopped by trees. The girl in our dorm was on it the bus too and said it was really bad!!!! Not good. Makes you think lots though!!!
Hayley is taking her Extremity to the max tommorrow, she is doing the Nevis, which is the 3rd highest bungy in the world, 150 metres or something, she is MAD!!!!!!!!! You jump from a cable car which is hanging between 2 cliffs!!!! And i've volunteered to go with her and film her doing it, which means I also have to go in the cable car too!!!!!! not too happy about that. That girl is crazy!!!
Only a week left for me, and then its a week in the sun ( hopefully) for me. Still def planning on going to Fiji. Its gone so quickly my time here!!!!!!! We leave here Wednesday to go to Dunedin, then up to Lake Takapo, then last stop is Christchurch, where I fly out on Sunday.
Lots of love and hugs to you all. L. xxxxxxxxx
