Day 41: 10/7/12
So got to Cordoba around 7:30am. Don't think I slept much. I had emailed the hostel asking for a pick-up and sure enough there was a guy waiting for me. We walked to his car and he drove me to the hostel. It wasn't actually that far at all.
When I was about to open the door I felt a bump like someone had tipped the back of the car. Sure enough there was a car there but it was on the road beside us. He had an old car and he seemed to have no control at all and the car just kept coming in right beside us so that the side of that car was stick into our car and the car in front. I got out and the driver had to get out my side aswell. He looked upset. In fairness he had a lovely little car/jeep that looked brand new! Come to think of it there was even paper on the ground where you put your feet- maybe it was new!
The guy in the old car that hit us was having trouble starting his car. It started eventually and he drove around the corner. My driver ran to the corner incase he was driving off. He came back then and handed me my bag and sent me into the hostel- probably wanted me out of the way! So I dont know if the other driver came back or not. I presume the car I was in is a scraped all along the side anyway.
In the hostel.
The guy at reception showed me straight to a room. I was delighted cos I thought I'd have to wait around to check in. There were three people asleep- two very south American looking people (man and woman) and another man. I laid down for a rest straight away as I was wrecked from the bus. The others got up soon enough. The south American looking people didn't have any English- the other guy snuck out unknown to me!
I got the wifi sorted and put on radio 1 to hear the boxing. Sounds like paddy Barnes was awful unlucky- they thought if it went to a countback that he had it. Looking forward to seeing John-Joe Nevins fight as it sounds like he was dancing round the ring a lot. Marty Morrisey was getting very worried in the 3rd round that he was attacking too much and not defending his lead. He said he wanted to see him dancing. He said all the midlands people love their country music and they all know how to jive- dance John-Joe!! I thought it was very funny!! Looking forward to listening to the final tomorrow- maybe a gold medal for Mullingar!!
I headed off up the town then. I went to a shopping centre guessing there would be a food court, and sure enough there was! I was able to have a fruit sala and smoothie for breakfast! Then I walked towards the square. There's a big cathedral of course. This one was even fancier than the others I've seen- the detail on the paintings on the ceiling were unbelievable.
There wasn't too much else to see in he square. I didn't feel that great- bit of a headache and my tummy felt weird. I presumed it was tiredness and maybe dehydration so I bought water.
Then I got a bus tour so I could sit back and relaxn! Cordoba was founded in 1537- one of the oldest cities in South America. It has something like 16 churches- one more impressive than he next! Lots of Jesuit churches. It's a huge university town also- think there are seven universities. One of them is the oldest in Argentina and second oldest in South America after Lima. The bus was really bumpy and it felt like it was going to fall apart- lots of trees getting close to our heads too!
Went back to the hostel after that to hear the last boxing match. I still didn't feel great and sure enough the water and some fruit all came up during the boxing mach!
Mam n Dad Skyped then- fine weather at home for a change and everybodys turf home!!
Then the plan was to rehydrate and sleep cos I think that's all that's wrong. I took some dioralyte first. Then I went to a cafe next door and had bread and butter and hot water. By the way, every time I ask for hot water theres a big drama about tea and coffee and milk! I just keep saying agua caliente solo. Thu always look at me as if I have ten heads but they always bring it in the end. This particular waittress had to bring out the chef to see if it was just hot water I wanted! You'd swear I was asking for something difficult! I had that while watching America beat Argentina in basketball and some Argentinian la win the gold in Taekwondo- that's a very strange sport!
I bought two bottles of water and went back to the hostel. I started Geting ready for bed and hit my hand off he metal bar at the end of the bed, which has no cover on it. Of course, blood everywhere which was all I needed! It's not a bad cut, just a stingy one!! Managed to get ready without any more accidents and had Panadol and a bottle of water while writing this so I think I'm good to go!! I'm going to sleep for as long as I can tomorrow and I'd say I'll be fine!!
