Hi all!! Finally got on the internet to update you all!
Arrived in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday early evening (to rain, I guess you'll be pleased to know!), had a very long flight and lots of waiting, made the most of the time by sleeping!!! We were taken by a taxi/minibus to our hotel Tang Dynasty in KK, a very squished journey but luckily it wasnt too long! Put in rooms of two - I was with Helen....who talked to her soft toy lamb at night and told him about her day...we had many a laugh about that! We went out in the evening to a riverside restaurant and then a few bars. Lots of karaoke going on - they were all very cringey!!! The next day we went to the market (can't remember the name! lol) which was good, lots of pets being sold which wasnt so nice as they looked near to death from the heat. Some of us went back to the hotel, but I went with a few others to look around KK a bit more. We went to Signal Hill View Point to see a panoramic view over the cities and islands. Very hot work, but luckily it was in the shade a lot of the way through the trees (we were on the look out for orangutans, but no luck there!), was a wonderful view at the top! We then walked around a few indoor markets, very smelly but all good to see (including dried out frogs made into purses!), and of course everyone was fascinated by us becasue of the colour of our skin. Went out for dinner again in the evening and a bar.
Monday we packed (mum I just about got my bag closed with helen and i pulling and tugging!) and got transfered to where I am at the moment - true luxury at the 5* Hotel Rasa Ria Resort. We had people playing us music when we got in and free drinks etc, then we made a head for the pool!!! Start work on the tan, though its not getting far at the moment haha! The rooms are gorgeous, sharing with elisabeth and steve - elisabeth and i got the nice comfy beds and steve got the camp bed (as you do! haha) and we over look a beautiful white sandy beach! Lots more westerners here though on holiday.
Today we have been on a team building exercise, though it wasnt really that much team building, just getting used to each other with sweat dripping down ourselves more like!! We took a short jungle trek up to the top of the National Interpretation Centre where one of our placements will be and then came down, and heading for a dip in the pool again!
The food here is amazing, going to get a shock when we go to sepilok without all these luxuries haha. Massive buffets, chocolate fountains and seafood loads and loads!! We end up eating waaayyy more than we can actually manage!!
Anyway, must go now. We are heading for Sepilok tomorrow where the orangutan centre is, getting an internal flight to Sandakan. We have found out where we are working first for each group - I am starting with Husbandry which is the 'teenage' orangutans next week which is super exciting!
lots of love to you all xxx
p.s. im sat in my bikini writing this...is it raining in england?!!!! :P
