We left Bangkok for Kanchanaburi early Monday morning (6:30am wakeup call! That was fun...). We took a train, which took about 2 1/2 hours from Thornburi Station (which was the name of the old capital by the way) and after arriving looked for a hostel. We settled on the Jolly Frog, not just because, let's face it, that's a pretty awesome name, but also brcause it was right on the River Kwai and the view was amazing!
We spent the day chilling on deckchairs next to the river before getting a longboat up the river to look at the Bridge over the River Kwai, a bridge built in the second world war by POW to aid a supply route for Japan. We crossed the bridge, the girls found it very scary and called it death-defying but it wasn't really. It was more just......crossing a bridge.
We spent the next day in a musuem learning alot about the bridge and the Death Railway (it was very thought provoking and some of the things that happened were astonishing).
We also made arrangements for our next stop by booking a sleeper train down south to somewhere I can't remember. We have spent the afternoon chilling and getting ready for the overnight trip. Next stop-the beaches!
