Our trip to Mirissa was short and sweet. The last stop in our whirlwind tour of Sri Lanka and we thought we should explore the beaches. We arrived after a couple of bus journeys and a couple of Indian-style helpful rickshaw drivers. 'Oh no there isn't a bus' 'There won't be a bus for an hour' 'the bus doesn't go from here' but we eventually made it to the beach and it was beautiful. We found a guesthouse and headed straight to it. Had a chilled Lion and watched the sun set. Dinner, also on the beach, was a seafood feast. Prawn curry and prawns and chips. Another Lion later and we were ready to sleep in our bed big enough for four people. Or the two of us and all of Sean's gear!
Up early the next morning to make the most of our only day on the beach. An hour lying in the sun and then the rains came. And didn't stop until we left. So like true Brits we stayed on the beach all day, in the bar and eating food. Also sharing our food with the cutest little puppy in the world. I wanted to adopt him and take him with us but Sean pried me away and we were on the road again.
Luckily our bus ride out was slightly more comfortable as we had seats but it was a strange mini bus that had a set of thee seats to an aisle and then a weird fold out seat in the aisle that all had to be vacated if someone at the back needed to get off. A long while later we arrived at the airport and were yet again , all too soon, on the way to another new country. Bon voyage from Sri Lanka, land of elephants and rain!
