Day 33 & 34 - 15th & 16th August Bisbee to Patagonia
Currently sitting in Patagonia Arizona as the border crossing in Douglas hadn't gone to plan. Arrived at crossing (US side) at 8.00am and attempted to complete my Carnet for the bike. They said come back at 12.00pm as that's when cargo opens on Saturday. My thoughts are that they just couldn't be bothered on a Saturday morning as similar crossings for the US went fine with similar border personal. I went back to Bisbee, 45km away, and waited until 11.30 and headed back. Arrived just after 12.00 and couldn't fine any cargo area and guards were hard to find so I decided to head for the Nogalas crossing 200km's away. All the border crossings so far seem to be one way traffic, there is no provision to stop and complete exit paperwork. I'm finding out that the Carnet is making things very difficult at crossings, not one guard has seen one before. Also didn't want to travel that late in the afternoon, it would have been close to 7-8pm by the time I would have hit Nuevo Cases Grandes.
My thoughts on the Douglas crossing was that if the US side had trouble with my documents then the Mex side would be hopeless. Also I think weekends might not be a good time to cross so I will hit Nogalas Monday morning. Nogalas is a much bigger crossing so hopefully it's a bit more up to date.
Because Douglas is closer to the Pacific I have decided to take the 'Pacific Dreams' route. I think accommodation is a little more expensive but navigation and safety is a bit better.
Still having a lot of negative thoughts about jumping over the border, would like to just get over and start making progress south.
If anybody would like to follow my tracks through google eartgh log onto the link bellow.
