M's european adventure.
I arrived at the tiny St Jacqes aeroport in a very hot Rennes a few of days ago. The outskirts of the city is glaringly modern and not the most attractive of places, but don't judge it on that. Next day I ventured into centre-ville, which is a very attractive medieval city which quite surprisingly remains relatively tourist free. Narrow cobbled streets with medieval buildings leaning precariously forward, quaint squares, ideal places to sit and watch the world go by. Perhaps slightly unwisely I ventured into the city without a map and promptly got lost. The city really is a rabbit warren, streets (with amazing shops it must be said) looking much the same branching off in all directions. Picturesque but tiring!
The people are lovely here, very friendly and welcoming. The population of Rennes is relatively young as it is a student city which makes it feel very dynamic. I've heard the nightlife in Rennes is pretty good, which I intend to fully explore soon.
