Bueno...Ya...Where were we? In Chile. We have loved it. It has been great to see our cousins and have Lucia show us around. She has been a great guide, really relaxed. She has looked after us and given us lots of top tips. Thank you Lucia!!We have had time to really quickly see Santiago de Chile, Valparaiso and spend some days in the amazing desert (one s or two?) of Atacama.
Highlights:
Finding lots of cousins (Lucia, Ana y " los Manolos") in Santiago and managing to spend at least 3 hours with Manolez. Keep us informed of your travels Manuel! Meeting Lucia´s friends (although too fast), seeing her house and getting an idea of her past year in Santiago.
Trying different recipes for Pisco Sour and the chopped tomatoes you always get to spread on bread. The yukky sea food, especially some red thing that apparently contains lots of something very healthy, and the yummy wine.
Pablo Neruda´s houses: the Chascona and the Sebastiana. Which he built to resemble living in a boat.
Walking around beautiful Valparaiso, lots of steep roads, great lifts and many stairs. Our little hostel 'El Caracol'. Our boat trip around the city´s port.
The amazing desert, the amount of space with seemingly nothing in it. It all looks the same until things are pointed out and you see the villages, old ruins, lakes, geisers, valleys, salt lake, mountains, animals, plants and loads of different kinds of desert within one. Uxio got sick because of the altitude and there was nothing that the coke plant could do about it.
The four wild Japanese kids that were in most of our tours. They would climb onto anything, hang over any cliff and destroy a little of each natural park. Amazing stuff to watch.
Going to see the stars in the middle of the desert and learning about them. We should have got the address of our grandmothers´ stars and could have looked for them!
The really cute restaurants in San Pedro de atacama made with mud with a fire in the middle. Really rustic yet stylish.
Spending time with Manuel and Ana. Much more fun than just us again!
Seeing the Andes at sunset from a hill in Santiago with the city at our feet, from a mountain in the moon valley and at sunrise from the plane on our way to Buenos Aires, where we arrived today.
Finally being in a Spanish speaking country and therefore the computer adding the accents to our writing, being able to open and close questions and exclamation marks : ¿ ? ¡ ! and having our special Ñ on the keyboard.
