Day 1 arriving in Queenstown
Queenstown, New Zealand
It was a dandy drive to the airport courtesy of Morgs. Lydia said her goodbyes and we set off through the international departure gates. As soon as the foot crosses the line Amber is immediately escorted for a random drug and bomb check (apparently this is a common occurrence) maybe it was a good idea that we abandoned the SARS masks.
We look around Duty Free and ate breakfast at Hudsons, in no time it was boarding time.
On the plane we were pretty lucky we had the whole row to ourselves. Behind us were two hyperactive Aussies who came to be rather amusing throughout the plane ride. Lydia settled with her movie and Amber shared her movie along with four packets of Pringles with one of the guys. The plane ride was over in no time and we enjoyed a spectacular decent into Queenstown.
Once we collected our luggage again within one step into Queenstown airport, the sniffer dog raced up to Amber. And all You could hear Amber shouting was "Apple" with a bright red face. Even though she ate it illegally on the plane much to Lydia's dismay it must have left an odour.
Now it was time to pick the rental car from Omega. As soon as we spotted our car, Amber jumped out of the courtesy bus and immediately started taking photos of the rental car, almost leaving her luggage in the courtesy car. Lydia thought this was a genius idea, we were both too focused on finding any mark on the car which resulted in the 4ft2 lady having to get all our luggage out. Once we had snapped 200 photos of the car we decided it was best to greet the hire company with our name and details. Only to discover New Zealand will not accept debit cards as credit cards, unlike every other place in the world. After SCREAMING at the guy for about 20 minutes, calling ours dads 5 times, threatening them with Amber's dad and the marfiia. We came to a sensible solution.
Finally, we commenced driving discovering the amazing Queenstown and Amber's inability to read a map. Half an hour later we arrived at the lodge, parked over three car spaces and checked in. Lydia insisted she knew a short cut to the room. But instead resulted in trekking half an hour up a hill and a hill billy yelling at us. Finally we made it to our room. Amber's bed is an attic and Lydia's head is resting on the heater. Feeling famished after today's ordeal, we headed to the famous Fergburger (only after detouring to the truck stop). Which was pretty satisfying.
We decided to relax on the first night.
