Our overnight flights to Belgrade from Tel Aviv were challenging (very little sleep!), but we rejuvenated ourselves with naps and showers late Saturday morning/early afternoon at the beautiful Hotel Prag in downtown Belgrade. We joined the SIT staff (Dr. Orli Fridman and Nenad Porobic) in Belgrade for an orientation meeting at 5 p.m., followed by a wonderful traditional Serbian meal at Sesir moj, a popular Kafana (or bistro) in Belgrade. I didn't have wi-fi access before we left Israel to write about our day in Jerusalem's Old City, but we enjoyed it immensely, despite the high temperatures. Ysrael, our guide, provided a detailed tour through the City of David, one of the most controversial archaeological sites in the world. We also visited (or viewed) the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Spending time in the Old City cafes and walking through the markets was also very enjoyable. Tension is high between the three religions in the Old City and I am still processing my personal reactions to it and the obsession with "place" for all religious traditions.

Laura Runyen-Janecky I'm really enjoying your blog. Processing "personal reactions" to the faculty seminar trip and reflecting on others' personal reactions (which were not always the same as mine) was one of the unexpected interesting parts of my trip two years ago.
Lucretia Thanks, Laura! Yes, I agree about the reactions.. With our theme of peace and conflict studies, this has been even more challenging with so many different opinions, but a true learning experience.
