SO...finally a chance to update you all on the last couple weeks!! After spending about a well deserved week on the island of Crete in Greece where we basked in the sun everyday and ate lots of greek salad and souvlaki, we headed by overnight ferry to Athens. We spent 1 night there, where Andrew that Lana met came to meet us. WE spent the day shopping and walking around and even ate Subway for lunch!! THe following day we took a 15 hour overnight ferry to Bari, Italy. ON the ferry we met 3 guys from Naples who were just returning home from working at a party campsite in Mykonos, Greece. They spoke English ok and were so entertaining for the night. WE spent the ferry ride drinking wine and ouzo and playing drinking games. After only a few hours sleep (we snuck into this lounge that was closed and slept on the floor but were kicked out at 5am by security) we had a great breakfast of french toast and eggs.
Arriving in Naples around 9am, Lana and I had no plans to get to Naples, onward to the Amalfi Coast. WE were able to pay 20 euros to take the bus that the guys were on that drove onto the ferry that was going to Naples. When we arrived in Naples we were able to stay at one of the guys place who lived with 3 other university students. Since the others weren't home, we were given our own room. We spent the next 2 nights/3 days eating the most amazing pizza and gelado and seeing the sites of Naples. We went to this park on a cliff with an amazing view to watch the sunset and drove around the city to see all the nice views of the coast. The city exceeded by expectations and is actually quite nice!!
After some relaxing time in Naples, Lana and I caught a train to Sorrento, then a bus down the Amalfi coast to Atrani, near Amalfi. The bus drivers are insane and the road goes along the cliff on the water not even wide enough for 2 cars to pass one another without one having to back up!! The hostel we stayed at in Atrani was very quiet and our room was like a cave. The town of only 800 people was so cute with its own beach and only 2 bars/restaurants to choose from. WE met many nice people in our hostel whom we drank with and spent time with when we werent on the beach. WE wandered the town of Amalfi, which is known for all the ceramic hand painted dishes. The next day Lana didn't feel well so I went to Positano alone. I was disappointed as it is full of old tourists and tourist stores, but not a true Italian village. While I was gone Lana got a ride on a scooter by an AMerican in our hostel down the coast, so when I got back at night time, he offered to give me a tour as well. It was my first time on a scooter, besides crashing one during my test drive in Greece in 05. It was thrilling and cold but the coast by night with all the lights was amazing.
The next day we were we leaving to go back to Naples around 4 so we decided to spend the day, our last beach day, in the sun doing nothing but playing football and lounging. Around 4 we caught a fast speed ferry back to Naples where we had many troubles using the pay phones to call our Napoli friends for a ride. An hour later, ERos came to pick us up and we stayed that night with Ermanno and his parents in this gorgeous apartment where they treated us like queens. His mother cooked us this huge dinner and also breakfast in the morning. THat night I got another scooter ride around the city by night by a local and then we all went to this bar on the cliff, where I drank gin and tonics!! The next day, Ermanno's dad drove us to the train station to go to Rome. Lana and I had our own cabin and decided to use our 2 hours wisely. WE had 1.5 litres of homemade warm white wine and played drinking games until the wine was finished within 40 minutes. By the time we got off the train, we were both drunk and called Dom (Lana's friend) to pick us up.
WE stayed at Dom's friends apartment just outside the city in Rome where we had our own room. Also staying there with Dom was his cousin and his friend, all of who are from Burnaby. WE all wandered the city and went drinking the first night. Lana got extremely sick and was puking all night so we took her home. The next day we walked around and went to this huge outdoor market and outlets about 1 hr outside of Rome. We were the only tourists I think. I bought a Diesel purse for 30 euros and a Roxy toque. That night we went to this amazing restaurant and ate lots of food and drank lots of wine.
Today, we plan on visiting the sites such as the Colusseum, Spanish steps, Trevi Foutnain, Mouth of Truth and Pantheon. Later Rocco, the chef with who we are staying with is cooking us a big meal...yay!! Tomorrow morning we leave for Stockholm on our 10am flight....can't wait. I haven't heard back from Andreas yet so I hope we can still stay there!! I will call him today!!
Anyways, that is a lot of typing and my time is up so I hope you are all well and keep me updated on what is going on back home or wherever you are!! Take care and I miss u all...xoxox
