¡Hola todos!
So I just got back from a magical weekend in Granada! although I should have been home studying for my exam...which I´m really worried about...it was absolutely amazing and I loved it!
After our 5 hour bus ride to Granada, we had some free time at the pool on top of our hotel with a gorgeous view of the city. Then a friend and I explored a bit and decided to check out a church near our hotel. We walked in and they were having mass....but the church had taken our breath away so we sat down to check it out anyway. There wasn´t a clear space on the entire huge building of the church. It was painted and had beautiful artwork....little did we know that this would be only the first of our amazing church tours!
After that we went and saw the Alhambra at night from a hillside view with lights on it. It would be much more impressive the next day. Then we went to a flamenco show inside a cave where they litterally danced right in front of us. It was really cool esp since some of the girls had taken flamenco classes and kinda knew some of the moves when they got to get up and dance at the end. Oh and the show came with a free sangria! sweet!
After that we went to a tapas bar which is typical of granada. You order a drink and they bring out tapas which are snacks for you. They had really good ham and bread among many other different types of tapas.
The next day however was def the best. We went to the Alhambra right away in the morning and I learned so much even being in the Spanish tour. It was so breath taking and gorgeous that idk if I can describe...if I get my pics up soon u´ll have to check it out. However the story of the Alhambra was just as interesting as the views. It was orginally built by the moors so there was moorish decorations but then the jews and the chirstians took it over a different times so there would be moor designed gardens that were so beautiful that I never wanted to leave and then Christen inspired building and artwork in the next room. It was very interesting and soooo cool to see. Not to mention it was the perfect day for it bc it wasn´t too hot and the sun was shining.
After the Alhambra and doing a little shopping in Granada....it´s dangerous...once I start it´s really hard to stop so luckly i didnt take enough money and just ran out each time.... lol We went and saw another breath taking and huge church. This was made out of white stone and had beautiful gold decorations. It also had lots of interesting stories in it too like huge sheets of paper they had for the organs made out of lamb skin before they had paper.
The next stop was to see the caskets of Ferdinand and Isabella. (they were really short..not like all the paintings that depict them as really tall) It was really cool learning about the most famous catholic reyes of Spain. There is also a statue of columbus asking Isabella to sail to the Americas in the town center.
After more tapas bares the next day we went to a monestary and church. This one was by far my fav church. It had such high ceilings that were all painted so beautifully. Not one crack was left untouched or unthought about. It also contained relics of one of the saints which means that on display they had the arm bones of one of the saints....it was really cool to see kinda a crazy idea but apparently churchs all over europe display parts of their saints.
All in all it was a great weekend that I really enjoyed and now i´m looking forward to doing more touring in Barcelona next weekend. However I have a lot of homework I´m going to need to do between now and then. But it should be another good weekend. I´m super excited!
Well off to go to my tapas cooking class...watch out I´m gonna know how to cook spanish food when I get back! get excited! :)
hasta luego
