Tuesday was another terrific day in Paris for us. For starters, I got up early and strolled around st Germaine, succeeded in finding a cafe open before 8 -- no easy task in this town of late sleepers. This place was popular with laborers on their way to work.
The LK crew got up a bit later. We walked over to Musee d'Orsay and spent about an hour and a half hitting the highlights. Jane and Katherine were pretty exited about seeing the impressionists and Van Gogh and the pointalists. We especially wanted to see Degas, Monet, Manet, Renoir, and Mary Cassatt. The girls found the one Cassatt painting in the place. Another big highlight was finding Degas' statue of the little dancer which we thought was in the Louvre. Jane, Katherine, and I claimed the little dancer as our favorite thing there. Robin's favorite were the Van Goghs.
Robin's other favorite was the picnic by Renoir. Later we traveled to the Eiffel Tower to join a bike tour of Paris. While waiting to join up we sat on a bench while waiting and enjoyed the scenery--mainly consisting of two lovers engaged in a flagrant PDA (public display of affection). Both jane and julie were giggling during my narration from the guidebook about the Eiffel Tower. This was very irritating to me and I slammed the guidebook closed, only later did I learn the reason for their inattention. the pda was a recurring theme during our paris stay.
Our bike tour of Paris was fun. The kids got a chance to ride in some heavy city traffic. We learned the term "to dominate" in bike terms is to move your bikes into a lane of trAffic and take it over to keep cars from passing around you. Weather was warm and humid after t-storm yesterday.
Later that evening we took the metro to the Friedland's arrondissement and got dinner at a not too impressive looking bar after a fruitless restaurant search. But the food was fantastic! We traipsed back to the apt at a late hour after a very full day!
