We arrived in Vilcabamba after a 10 hour journey.Vilcabamba is a really beautiful little village with really gorgeous mountains and lakes. We were very lucky to get the great weather that we got here.We went to our hostel which was a block away from the bus station and that block pretty much accounted for the whole village.
We spent three nights here and really loved it.We stayed in a hostel with a nice courtyard and the rooms were like staying in little country cabins. We made a few friends there and ended up hanging out with them a bit.One of these people was Sy who is an 80 year old man who is backpacking around!! Vilcabamba is known for its older living residents some up to 120 years old!! He ended up going to Peru with us aswell. The hostel was cool for relaxing outside and reading your book and just chilling. We walked around the village and the surrounding countryside and one of the days we went to the eco lodge and did a bit of trekking which gave us great views of the area. We spent three great days of relaxing in the most picturesque of places. We decide we needed to move on to Peru and on some advice from people we met we set to head for Huanchaco in Peru, which is a little surfing village and reportedly very cheap!!So we booked our bus which would take us to to Cuenca and there we would catch a bus over the border Piura and then a connecting bus to Trujillo where we would take a taxi to Huanchaco.Quite a journey!!
Vilcabamba Done!!
