We took a twenty five hour bus journey from Buenos Aires to Bariloche which is south west of BA. When we arrived we took a taxi straight to our hostel- 1004- which we had pre- booked. The hostel was a penthouse apartment on the tenth floor of an apartment building which gave us a great view of the area and the surrounding lakes. 1004 was by far the best place we had stayed so far. The hostel was chilled out and had a great atmosphere. We arrived there around five in the afternoon so we just relaxed for the evening as we were wrecked from the bus journey.
The next day we wanted to rent mountain bikes and cycle around a twenty five km circuit called cirquito chico. When we got to the rental place, which was eighteen kms away, we were too late to do the cycle so we just booked it for the next day and decided to hike up campanario mountain which was near by. It took about an hour to get up to the top and the views up there were amazing. After we came back down we walked back along the road and took a bus back to the town. The hostel was so clean that we were able to cook dinner there so we just went to the supermarket and went back to the hostel and cooked dinner there.
The next day we went back to the bike rental place with friends we met in the hostel and got our bikes. The circuit was tough as it was mostly uphill but well worth it as the views were again amazing. We had our lunch by the lake which was a thirty minute walk from the main road. We stopped by the Llao- Llao hotel which is a famous five star hotel but were not allowed in as they had certain visiting hours!! We stopped in a brewery and got some local beers and passed through a colonial swiss village along the way. That night in the hostel they were having a wine tasting night. Everybody staying there has to bring a bottle of wine and a snack and it is all put on a table and everybody just works away. We` were pretty wrecked from the day so we didnt last very long.
We spent the next few days walking all around the town. The place was really cool. It was like a Swiss ski resort with all Swiss type buildings. As Bariloche is the home of chocolate we went to a chocolate factory and visited some of the chocolate shops. It was like something out of a movie. We went to a mexican reatsurant with friends we met in the hostel and ended up travelling to Mendoza, Salta and into Bolivia with them!!
We went up Cerro Otto mountain which again gave amazing views of the area. At th top there were two St. Bernards which were really cute and a revolving restaurant which is famous in the area. When we came down we walked back to the town which was really cool as we could see all the different style houses. Again we cooked in the hostel which was great to be able to do.
We took a day trip on a ferry to an island called Isla Victoria. The island is a very popular touist attraction and is again has really good views. We also went to the Arrrayanes Forest which is really famous for the types of trees on the island. When we went back to the hostel we took part in the wine tasting again and stayed a little later this time around!!
The next morning we got up at eight o clock and had to rush to the bus station to catch our bus to Mendoza. A really nice sixteen hour bus journey ahead!!
Bariloche done!!
